Android Beta Testing Guide
Google Play's closed testing track is the best way to get your Android app in front of real testers before a public launch. Here's how to set it up and use TestLaunch to find testers.
Step 1: Set Up Closed Testing in Google Play Console
In your Google Play Console, go to Testing → Closed testing and create a new track. Upload your APK or Android App Bundle. This creates a private version of your app that only approved testers can access.
Step 2: Create a Google Group
Google Play closed testing uses Google Groups or email lists to manage who can test. Create a Google Group at groups.google.com, then add it as a tester list in your closed testing track settings.
Step 3: List Your App on TestLaunch
Add your app to TestLaunch and include:
- Google Group Link — so testers know which group they need to join
- Google Play Testing Link — the opt-in URL from your closed testing track
- Contact Email — where testers will send access requests
Step 4: Manage Tester Requests
When a tester clicks "Request Access" on your listing, they'll send you an email asking to be added. Add their email to your Google Group, and they'll be able to download the app from Google Play using the testing link.
Tips
- Respond to tester requests quickly — testers lose interest if they have to wait days
- Be specific about what feedback you need in your listing description
- Set a realistic test duration so testers know the commitment
